Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment that helps people change how they feel by changing how they think and behave. A primary goal of CBT is to recognize unhelpful thinking patterns about yourself, others, or the world, and develop more balanced thinking patterns to help reduce anxiety and improve mood. CBT also involves identifying unhelpful behaviors – behaviors that are keeping you stuck and contributing to your distress – and trying new behaviors that are designed to change how you feel. CBT is an active, structured, present-focused treatment, and sessions involve examining thought patterns, collaboratively problem-solving, developing behavior plans, and assigning skills-focused homework for between sessions.
